A Western Region DMU photographed passing Tilehurst signal box on the up relief towards Reading: i.e. the train is moving away from the photographer, which explains the absence of driver! Beyond this, I am looking for guidance. Am I correct that this is a Class 117 DMU? And what about the date? It is taken on Ferrania colour film which my father didn't use after 1959. By August 1960 he had moved to Agfa colour film. It looks to me as though this unit is brand new and, as I understand it, these units were only introduced in 1959? The only other clue is a second shot probably taken on the same day of a similar unit heading west toward Tilehurst where the destination board seems to read Banbury and the headcode is 2H49.
