Derek. A belated reply on Smugmug to thank you for your dating details. I have now found your pages (?) on David Hey's website: so thank you for all that work too! I have added a few more Britannia shots to this site and there are one or two more to come in the near future. Any help you can give with identification would be welcome.
70028 ROYAL STAR:because the second phase of Britannia's built included all the modifications found to be necessary from the first group of engines, it is very difficult to find any clue that can pinpoint a date. Having said that 70028 was one of seven of the class loaned to the SR in May 1953, and was returned to the WR ranks 20/06/1953. So if we look closely at the nearside smoke deflector, we can discern a SR lamp iron bolted onto the lower stay, showing the date to be after June, 1953. 70028 worked from Exmouth Junction MPD whilst axle check/repairs were carried out on all SR pacifics, after the Crewkerne accident. Many thanks are due to you for uploading these great images. DixieDean46
