This is the only photograph that was published during my father's lifetime. It appeared in the Railway Magazine of April 1957. The name "The Royal Duchy" was conferred upon the 1.30pm express from Paddington on 28 January 1957 and this shot was taken shortly thereafter. 6002 King William IV is seen approaching Southcote. My father's usual means of transport at this time, an old bicycle, can just be seen on the right hand side of the picture.
